What's interesting is that I thought I was being way too obvious about what is going on in the story. But none of the commenters seem to have quite got it.

Or perhaps it's that merely thinking of it as an AU leads to a happier ending/interpretation? I'm fine with that. Once stories go out into the world, as far as I'm concerned, they need to stand alone – and authorial intent can be interesting and a nice addition to one's understanding of the story, but it does not replace any reader's personal experience (nor any scholar or critic's interpretation of the work). The author gets to say what they want in the story itself... the interpretations are not in the author's control. (A lesson J. K. Rowling may not have yet learned...)

So please enjoy the story however you like. But if you are curious about what I intended... the most obvious clue I can point you at is that it's not *really* an AU. There is a canon interpretation of what is going on.

I felt like since I had made a mini-book for the H/D meetup, and I had made one for the Snarry meetup, I really had a moral imperative to do one for my own meetup and my #1 ship! Eeeeeek! The problem was... I didn't have ANY short Snaco stories! (Except drabbles.)

So my challenge to myself here was to write a Snaco (a smutty, GOOD Snaco, that is) that could fit in a minibook, meaning around 1500 words. I ended up making it 1800 and leaving my bio out of the book to make it fit. :-) Anyway, here it is:
